Project Overview

The M12 Motorway Central project is a key component of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan, designed to provide a high-standard and efficient connection to the Western Sydney Airport and integrate with Sydney’s broader motorway network. The project, managed by Seymour Whyte and valued between $400 to $500 million, involves the construction of a 7.5km dual-carriageway motorway, including 11 bridges, cycle and pedestrian paths, and intelligent transport systems.

The M12 Central package is a critical section of this infrastructure, running between Badgerys Creek and Duff Road, Cecil Hills, and is expected to significantly reduce travel times and increase reliability for road users and freight operators.

Scope

Ozcast’s involvement in the M12 Central project is to supply precast parapets, which are essential for the safety and structural integrity of the motorway’s bridges. The project requires a high level of coordination and planning, particularly due to the unpredictable weather patterns in New South Wales, which could potentially impact the casting and delivery schedules.

Seymour Whyte provided Ozcast with sufficient lead times to produce quality moulds for the precast elements, ensuring that the project could run on time and within budget. Ozcast worked closely with the project team to schedule the casting program in alignment with the installation needs, ensuring a steady supply of parapets to the site. Additionally, Ozcast demonstrated flexibility by storing panels at their premises when necessary, accommodating the project’s dynamic requirements.

Ozcast’s use of 3D modelling technology played a pivotal role in this process, enabling the team to identify and resolve potential issues before casting, thus ensuring a smoother and quicker installation on site.

Outcome

The collaboration between Ozcast and Seymour Whyte on the M12 Central project has been a success, with the project set to be completed by May 2024. The effective planning and execution of the casting program, coupled with the ability to adapt to weather challenges and logistical demands, have been instrumental in keeping the project on track. Ozcast’s ability to provide a steady supply of precast parapets, while also offering storage solutions, has contributed to the project’s progress without compromising on quality or timing. The M12 Central project is on course to meet its objectives, providing a testament to the benefits of early planning, quality manufacturing, and collaborative project management in large-scale infrastructure developments.
